Thirty years helping businesses survive. Now helping them thrive.
I've spent my career sitting across the table from business owners in difficulty — studying the numbers, identifying what's really going wrong, and helping them find a way through. What I learned along the way became the Business Freedom Method™.

The numbers told me what happened. They never told me why.
I trained as a management accountant because I believed that understanding the numbers was the key to understanding a business. And for a long time, I was right. The profit and loss, the cash flow, the balance sheet — they told a story that most business owners couldn't read for themselves.
But the more businesses I worked with, the more I noticed something the numbers couldn't capture. Two businesses with identical financial profiles could be in completely different states of health. One owner was energised, clear-headed, building something. The other was exhausted, reactive, firefighting every day.
The difference wasn't in the accounts. It was in the seven areas that the accounts don't measure — direction, people, systems, leadership, customers, innovation, and how the business actually generates profit.
"Your accounts tell you what happened last year. The Business MRI™ tells you why — and what to change so next year is different."
That realisation — that financial diagnosis is only half the picture — is what led me to develop the Business Freedom Method™. Not to replace accounting. To complete it.
The philosophy that shapes everything
My father ran a business for many years. Like many business owners, he faced obstacles that were entirely outside his control — circumstances that could easily have broken him. What I remember most is that he never blamed anyone. Not the economy, not his competitors, not bad luck.
He responded to difficulty with ownership. He took responsibility for what he could control and kept moving forward. I didn't have a name for it then, but I now understand it as the most fundamental quality that separates the business owners who make it from those who don't.
I call it the OAR framework. The people and businesses that thrive consistently operate Above The Line.
Taking ownership of outcomes regardless of circumstances. The business is your responsibility — its results, its problems, its direction.
Holding yourself and your team to the standards and commitments that move the business forward. Not as punishment, but as a standard of excellence.
Responding rather than reacting. Making deliberate choices about where to focus energy rather than being swept along by whatever arrives next.
Below the line — where most businesses get stuck
The market, the economy, the team, the timing. Blame feels justified — and it keeps the business exactly where it is.
Reasons why the plan didn't happen, why the change is difficult, why now isn't the right time. Always a next time.
The numbers aren't that bad. The clients will come back. This is just a tough patch. Until the tough patch becomes the new normal.
Everything I've learned, structured into a system anyone can follow
After three decades of working with businesses in difficulty, I started to see the same patterns repeating. The Business Freedom Method™ is the structure that came from making sense of those patterns. Not theory from a textbook — a diagnostic and improvement system built from real experience with real businesses.
At the centre of it is the Business MRI™ — the tool I wished I'd had for every client I've ever worked with.
